After the success of the inaugural Convention Charity Breakfast which raised over $10,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Convention for a Cause is back. In 2012 the MIPS-AMSA Charity Breakfast will be raising funds for Australian health promotion charity One Disease at a Time. Established in 2010 by 2012 Young Australian of the Year (ACT) Dr Sam Prince, One Disease at a Time is a taking a different but very successful approach to philanthropy. By tackling one disease at a time (currently scabies) the organisation aims to eliminate certain diseases from Australia for good, within a specified time frame. Scabies is a highly contagious skin disease. It is a significant problem in Australian Indigenous communities. It is a significant health problem, particularly in young children. It can lead to life threatening conditions including kidney disease and rheumatic heart disease. For further information of this wonderful charity please visit 1disease.org.
On the 7th of July, Convention for a Cause will welcome Dr Prince to speak to over 200 Convention delegates over breakfast at the Mounts Bay Sailing Club, over looking the picturesque Swan River. If you missed out on getting a ticket, there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved and give your support to One Disease at A Time.
